George Benson was an English actor who was best known for his roles in the films The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), The Guns of Navarone (1961), and The Great Escape (1963). He was born on 11 January 1911 in Cardiff, Wales, UK. Benson began his career as a stage actor in the 1930s, appearing in a number of plays in London's West End. He made his film debut in the 1940s, appearing in a number of British films. He went on to appear in a number of Hollywood films, including The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Guns of Navarone, and The Great Escape. Benson was married twice, first to actress Joan Greenwood and then to actress Margaret Leighton. He had two children with Greenwood and one with Leighton. Benson died on 24 April 1984 in London, England, at the age of 73. He was survived by his two children with Greenwood and his daughter with Leighton. At the time of his death, Benson had an estimated net worth of $2 million.
