Linda Lovelace was an American pornographic actress best known for her performance in the 1972 pornographic film Deep Throat. She was born Linda Susan Boreman in The Bronx, New York, on January 10, 1949. She was the daughter of a police officer and a mother who was a devout Catholic. At the age of 20, she married Chuck Traynor, who became her manager and introduced her to the adult film industry. She starred in Deep Throat, which became a major success and one of the first pornographic films to be a mainstream success. She later starred in other pornographic films, including The Devil in Miss Jones and Linda Lovelace for President. In 1980, Lovelace wrote an autobiography, Ordeal, in which she described the abuse she suffered at the hands of Traynor. She became an advocate for anti-pornography and anti-violence against women. Was involved in a bad car accident on April 3, 2002, in Denver, CO, that left her with massive trauma and internal injuries and on life support. She was taken off life support by her family on April 22, 2002, and died shortly after. Her ex-husband Larry Marchiano and two adult children were at the hospital when she died.
In her autobiography "Ordeal" and in the TV program E! True Hollywood Story: Linda Lovelace (2000), she revealed that she got pregnant when she was 19 and gave birth to a son when she was 20 years old, and that her mother put him up for adoption. It wasn't the first or last time that an unwed teenager would have a baby in her family, since her mother gave birth to her half-sister Barbara Boreman when she was 18, and Linda's daughter Lindsay Marchiano gave birth to a son when she was 17.
In 1980 she released her autobiography "Ordeal", in which she revealed her abuse under Traynor. Lovelace became an anti-porn advocate, and testified before the Meese Commission on the dangers of pornography.
Linda starred in the R-rated Deep Throat Part II (1974) (filmed while she was still married to Traynor) and the soft-X Linda Lovelace for President (1975) before shying away from the public, which expected nudity in her films and did not want to hear her emerging accounts of sexual slavery.
She is most well known for the hardcore porn feature Deep Throat (1972), which became a runaway hit, playing to sellout crowds in "respectable" cinemas; it is still considered the quintessential adult film of all time. Linda divorced Traynor, revealing he had abused her physically and sexually for the duration of their relationship, coercing her into the film.
Following the end of their marriage, Chuck Traynor married and helped guide the career of Marilyn Chambers (the 1970s' second most famous adult film star).
