Rajani Praveen was born in Bengaluru to V. N. Malhotra, father and Sulochana, mother. She was married to an NRI Dr. Mullagiri Praveen in 1998, and they have three children.
She has starred in 150 feature films including Seetharama Kalyanam, Rendu Rella Aaru and Aha Naa Pellanta, opposite Rajendra Prasad, Majnu, opposite Nagarjuna and Seetaramula Kalyanam, opposite Balakrishna. She also starred in Kannada films including Jai Karnataka, a remake of the 1987 Bollywood hit Mr. India and Neenu Nakkare Haalu Sakkare, with Vishnuvardhan and Ambareesh. She then starred in Bharathan's Malayalam hit Padheyam, opposite Mammootty.
